| Big
Canoe is a private retreat of pristine woods and
lakes, crowned by seven of Georgias largest
mountain peaks. Nestled in the Blue Ridge
Mountains, Big Canoe offers a place of mists and
silences, of waterfalls and trout-filled lakes,
of crystal ir and abundant wildlife. Big
Canoe is the Atlanta areas premier mountain
community, and is located about 1 hour north of
Atlanta. Alpharetta, and the booming office
market around North Point Mall, are only about 40
minutes south, and the new Premium Outlets Mall
in Dawsonville is only about 20 minutes
away. The Big Canoe development was chosen
as the site for the 1997 Southern Living Idea
House. The Big Canoe community has three
lakes, 27 holes of championship golf, and hiking
trails in a 6,400 acre setting with ridges
exceeding 3,000 feet in elevation.
There is a heritage in Big Canoe of deep respect. The Indians called it The Enchanted Land. Big Canoe's early settlers regarded its vast spaces with religious reverence. While Big Canoe offers many recreational facilities and residences, the peace of the land whose stewardship was inherited from those who came before, has been lovingly preserved. Youll understand the communitys commitment to preserving the natural beauty of this land when you see the 27-hole golf course woven so beautifully among the lakes and woods and mountain meadows of the land it seems as if it has always been there. Big Canoe's distinguished course architect Joe Lee designed it. It is championship caliber and rated among the top 20 best golf courses in Georgia by Golf Digest. Because the environment is so extraordinary in Big Canoe, a wealth of outdoor amenities exist for the privileged residents and guests year-round. Indoor and outdoor tennis courts for day and night play. An Olympic-size swimming pool for adults and a wading pool for kids. Nature and Jeep trails fresh-water fishing windsurfing and sailing, and more (see Amenities). Best of all, Big Canoe is blessed by four spectacular seasons but never their extremes: Mild Winters, Refreshingly cool Summers, and Long and lovely Springs and Falls. |
