Hiking Trails of Big Canoe hike.gif (1821 bytes)

Nature Hiking Trails
  - There are many hiking trails throughout the Big Conoe community.  Nature Valley has a 400+ acre natural area with numerous trails.  Disharoon creek flows through the valley and is traversed by an old logging road known as Jeep Trail. The road is open to 4-wheel drive vehicles. Quite exciting! You can find deer, wild turkey, gray squirrels, and many species of birds. An old log cabin, moonshine still area, a site of diggings - which many say were rich gold deposits, will be encountered along your journey. Two waterfalls along the jeep trail cool you during the day's heat, and make great picnic areas.

Wildflower Meadow and Preserve - The newest addition of nature preserves within Big Canoe opened in September of 1999 on a 28-acre tract of beautiful woodland.  The park includes expansive views of colorful wildflowers, plants and wildlife typical of the North Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains.  Its pathways are ideal for jogging and walking and will provide access to the new Wildcat Recreation Center as well as access to a hiking trail up the side of McElroy Mountain.

Indian Rock Park  - A trail winds through the woods to some of the most unusual rock mounds in the state. Said to be Indian burial mounds, the state of Georgia is conducting tests to determine that possibility. The rock pilings are believed to date from 4,000 to 6,000 years ago.

Botanical Garden Nature Trail  - A delightful garden of natural flora. Signs are posted to call out the names of nature's delights. A trail winds 4/5 of a mile through the beautiful north Georgia woods. The garden is accessed off the main road, between the main entrance gate and the covered bridge.
